"Being named the 2004 Kenworthy Leadership Award recipient meant so much to me, because I feel like it was a vote of confidence for all volunteers who are leaders, especially those of us who, though we are not employed, spend countless hours working to improve life for others and are able to make a difference in our community."

-Mary Kay Ross, 2004 Kenworthy Award recipient, Class X

Message from the president

It's been 25 years since the Junior League of Springfield, the Chamber of Commerce and the United Way jointly decided there was a need to focus on leadership within the community.  The vehicle they created to meet the need was Leadership Springfield.  The purpose was simple: to inspire, connect and develop leaders within the community.  As one looks at the makeup of the non-profit and governmental boards in our community, it is a testament to their vision.  The alumni of Leadership Springfield are making an impact on Springfield!

Over the years the organization has evolved to provide a greater reach and depth of service to the community.  In addition to the 25th anniversary of our flagship program, we are celebrating our 20th anniversary of the Academy program for high school juniors and the 5th anniversary for the LIFT program.

These milestones were only made possible through a long history of dedicated board members.  This past year certainly was no different.  Past president Steve Gassel exemplified the virtues of the organization in his leadership during the past year.  I was very fortunate to have such a mentor as I take the reins from him.  I have the additional fortune of maintaining all of the current board members who have been so successful this year.

Please join us this year as we celebrate our 25th anniversary, but most importantly, I encourange all alumni to get involved in our community.

David Hall, President
